Round Valley Indian Health Center
Project Description
The Round Valley Indian Health Center (Health Center) is
a non-profit corporation established in 1968, designed to offer
health care to the Round Valley community. Located in Covelo,
California, a remote valley community in Northern Mendocino
County, the Health Center provides primary health care to approximately
3,000 people living in Covelo and the adjacent Round Valley
Indian Reservation. The Reservation was established in 1856
and is the ancestral home of seven Indian Nations. The Health
Center staff is dedicated not only to treatment, prevention,
and patient education, but also recognizes traditional Indian
medicine and holistic healing.
Our Role
The Health Center needed a website that would provide reliable
information to the community it serves. We worked in collaboration
with Health Center staff and the local Indian community to create
a site with comprehensive information about the valuable services
the Health Center provides. It was important to our client that
we build a site that "felt" like a community website.
We suggested working with local Indian artists to create the
graphic design for the site, and to showcase local artisans'
work. The collaboration between our graphic designers and local
Indian artists resulted in an original look and feel for the
site. The website furthers the Health Center’s goal of
providing quality, accessible healthcare and information to the
community it serves, and provides a showcase for the talent and
rich culture of the Round Valley Indian tribes.
